Raghunath Rajaram and Namisha Parthasarathy are trying to simplify coffee with a radical approach that involves reinventing the flavour wheel and learning about coffee’s colonial hangover.
The couple started an online coffee group and a coffee delivery programme. At the London Coffee Festival, they intend to show off a prototype of their south Indian filter. Indian coffee is still mass-produced in large quantities, with some of our best beans being exported to Europe and other nations.
They want to liberate Indian coffee from the shackles of British hegemony over the export of its best beans. While in India, the couple is concentrating on growing their subscription service and adding more content. Individual palates are catered to, and ‘My Coffee Journey’ allows for even more customization.
According to Debabrat Mishra, founder of Koraput Coffee, SCA needs to take a country-specific approach. Mishra’s company produces coffee beans in Odisa with the help of tribals. “Notes of green chilli, white pepper, and even gooseberry” can be found in his coffees, he says.
