Elf (2003) is now a Christmas Classic and a staple in most homes around the holidays. Today I’m making Buddy’s “Syrup” Coffee, and I’m pretty sure the “Syrup” in question was Old Granddad 100 Proof Bonded Bourbon, so this is my “Elfish Coffee”. We know that the Elves of the North Pole have four elfish food groups: Candy, Candy Cane, Candy Corn, and Syrup. This drink manages to deftly combine three of them (candy corn would be… weird.). There were a few scenes I could draw inspiration from, but I’m leaning into the coffee. Coffee comes up a few times in the film: The World’s Best cup of Coffee. The Coffee he has in his dad’s (James Caan) office. Then there’s the coffee that his work-release friend down in the mailroom helps Buddy (will Ferrel) spike with some whiskey. That’s the ticket!
.75 oz. -or- 22 ml. Maple Syrup
4 oz. -or- 120 ml. Hot Coffee
1.5 oz. -or- 45 ml. Bourbon
top with Maple Whipped Cream
Garnish with Crumbled Candy Cane
Slowly but surely, I’m starting a mailing list so that I’m not fully dependent on YT’s algorithmized notifications system. If you’ll sign up, I promise not to abuse your generosity, or sell your info to anyone. It’s over on the blog right here:
